How to work on a band piece
Full band pieces have different parts for different instruments, and are much longer than the pieces in the band lessons.
Practice it a bit at a time – don’t try and learn the whole thing at once. Don’t be overwhelmed by the length! If you look at it in sections it is quite achievable.
There is a recording too – you can listen to it, and play along with it to help you learn how your part fits in.
There are a few new concepts. When you have a thick black horizontal bar with a number above it, that means you rest for that many bars (i.e. don’t play! But keep count, so you know when to start again). Also, there are numbers in boxes above the music. These are bar numbers to help identify different sections of the music, so if we stop during rehearsal, we all know where to start from again.
When we all play our various parts together, we will sound like a full band. This is why we do what we do! Everyone’s part contributes in its own way to the final sound, which creates a far more impressive sound than any one player could on their own. We sound better together – as the school motto says “many languages, one voice.”
The pieces are in your folder, but if you happen to lose your folder, email rwpsband@gmail.com to ask for the replacement files.
